A terraced family house that follows the character of the surrounding buildings.

The new building respects the scale and morphology of the original house, which will be demolished. The street part retains the traditional form with a gable roof, thus naturally fitting into the context of the surrounding terraced housing. Towards the courtyard the courtyard, the house extends to form a single storey pavilion with generous glazed areas that link to the garden, bringing light to the interior and a visual connection to the exterior.

Due to the building's unfavourable orientation to the cardinal points, an atrium is designed behind the street section to bring sunlight into the central living area for most of the year. The prominent retreat of the entrance creates a sheltered lee and at the same time gives the house a contemporary and confident expression towards the street. The front door is thus hidden from direct contact with the public space.

The house for a family of four works with a simple volume, a moderate colour scheme and a traditional form treated with a contemporary approach.
